ROCKY HANDSOME Music Review: Freshness with Groove

Being honest, We did not expect the music of Rocky Handsome to be exceptional. That was keeping in mind that Nishikant Kamat is not going with the mesmerizing Harris Jayraj of Force, or touching Vishal Bhardwaj of Drishyam. But considering that previous two movies also had the same case of newer composers, and they were quality music, we hoped this would be the same. And we were not disappointed.

Here is the track wise analysis of Rocky Handsome’s Music.

1. Rock Tha Party

The first track of the album is an already super hit track by Bombay Rockers from 2007. This track was a massive success back then and to be honest, it is really great that they did not re-touch the song for the movie. Re-touching has spoiled many songs off late for the fans of originals. But this one has the same groove which makes it a perfect starter for the album.

2. Rehnuma

This track in the hustle-y voice of Shreya Ghoshal has some unordinary arrangement by Bawra brothers to it that engulfs you into it. You might want to hear it repeatedly, but we advise not to. Listen to it when you get to, but not on replays, that might spoil the song for you. Trust us on that. Lyrics by Manoj Muntashir and Sagar Lahauri are really impressive.

3. Alfazon Ki Tarah

Ankit Tiwari brings yet another song of his own genre. Alfazon Ki Tarah is penned by Abhnendra Kumar Upadhyay and lyrics have a certain degree of novelty to them. Music by Ankit Tiwari is quite similar in the sound, to his previous compositions like Sun Raha Hai Na Tu, Tu Hai Ki Nahin, etc. The song is decent to hear and doesn’t have much repeat value.

4. Aye Khuda

Possibly the best track on the album. Full of grief and pain, this track has two versions, one with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and another where Shreya Ghoshal joins him. You can hear this song in loops and it will gain impact with each replay. Powerful Lyrics by Sachin Pathak and Shekhar Astitwa are poetic. Bawra Brothers’ Music has an indescribable feel to it. Grab your earphones, set this track on repeat, close your eyes and listen. More effective if u have recently had a heartbreak.

5. Titliyan

This track sung by Sunidhi Chauhan is a pure foot tapper. Sagar Lahauri’s lyrics are just as beautiful as a Titli. Music by Bawra Bros. is funky but doesn’t sound unique. This song feels like it will occur somewhere around the interval of the movie. Where John will go to some villain’s adda to get a clue for the rest of the movie. Let’s see how close we get to the prediction.

Conclusion

This album is thankfully not a generic action-movie score. Instead, it appears to have been made to suit the narrative. Music by Inder Bawra and Sunny Bawra has a fresh groove to it. Overall lyrics are also impressive. A few tracks of this album may land up in your playlist. But all have a special sound to it which makes it equally appealing on subsequent listens.

Swudzy Favorites: Aye Khuda(Duet), Rehnuma.
